|First Jesus, Then
Christ the Warrior
I am amazed at how few Christians seem to be unaware that there is a war going on against Christ and all his followers. They do not understand how the will of the nations conflicts with the will of God. They do not know that the nations are prophesied to attack God's people and rid themselves of Christ and his followers once and for all. So the whole purpose of the progress of mankind has been for man to finally and completely cast off God and enslave humanity for the pleasure of a few powerful people at the top. Of course, God would have something to say about that. Hence, a confrontation and war is inevitable since our rebellion in the garden of Eden.
So we are going to explore this possibility of a war with Christ
and what that means for us. Some would like to imagine that we will
not have to face persecution and attack. But it is just not possible
as I am going to show now.
John 7:7 The world cannot hate you [his fleshly brothers of Mary and Joseph]; but it hates Me because I witness about it, that its works are evil.
*Those in power did not appreciate Christ telling them and others that their works were evil. They thanked him by killing him and going after his followers, too. Now I ask you, if we are true followers, don't we also bear witness that the works of the world are evil? If we do, what should we imagine they will do to us? Jesus answers that for us in the next scripture.
John 15:20 Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.
Matthew 10:24 "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master;
John 13:16 Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.
Matthew 10:25 it is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.
So if they accused Jesus of things he was not guilty of and claimed that Jesus was Beelzebul or the devil, than will they not do the same to us? Of course they would and will. And since in all instances mentioned so far, it was the religious leaders who persecuted and killed Jesus, should we not expect most religious leaders today to be the same way? Jesus and his apostles prophesied that the church would become corrupted and sown with weeds and lies. Should we then not expect to find that? We will and we do find that. But it won't just be the religious leaders who will have no use for us. The governments and nations will also find us a pain.
Psalm 2:1 Why have the nations raged and the peoples are meditating on vanity? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves; yea, the rulers have plotted together against Jehovah and His anointed, saying, 3 We will break their bands in two, and throw off their cords from us. 4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; Jehovah shall mock at them. 5 Then He will speak to them in His anger, and He will terrify them in His wrath;
2:6 Yea, I have set My king on My holy mount on Zion. 7 I will declare concerning the statute of Jehovah: He said to Me, You are My Son. Today I have begotten You. 8 Ask of Me, and I will give the nations as Your inheritance; and the uttermost parts of the earth as Your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
2:10 Now, then, be wise, O kings; be taught, O judges of the earth: 11 Serve Jehovah with fear; yea, rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish from the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Oh the blessings of all those who flee to Him for refuge!
*God gives the nations fair warning. Serve my son or die.
Daniel 11:30 For ships of Kittim shall come against him, and he shall be afraid and withdraw, and shall turn back and be enraged and take action against the holy covenant. He shall turn back and give heed to those who forsake the holy covenant. 31 Forces from him shall appear and profane the temple and fortress, and shall take away the continual burnt offering. And they shall set up the abomination that makes desolate. 32 He shall seduce with flattery those who violate the covenant; but the people who know their God shall stand firm and take action. 33 And those among the people who are wise shall make many understand, though they shall fall by sword and flame, by captivity and plunder, for some days. 34 When they fall, they shall receive a little help. And many shall join themselves to them with flattery; 35 and some of those who are wise shall fall, to refine and to cleanse them and to make them white, until the time of the end, for it is yet for the time appointed.
*Verse 33 predicts a great persecution which did begin in the 1st
century. But it did not end then and it shall last and reappear in
all nations before the end in verse 35. That is not what some want to
hear but there it is.
Revelation 12:7 Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they were defeated and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world--he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
12:12 Rejoice then, O heaven and you that dwell therein! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!" 13 And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had borne the male child. 14 But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle that she might fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time. 15 The serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with the flood. 16 But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river which the dragon had poured from his mouth. 17 Then the dragon was angry with the woman, and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and bear testimony to Jesus.
*After the war in heaven, Satan is cast down to earth which does not mean good tings for those on earth. The symbolic woman, Christ's people, his church, here on earth, the pillars of his spiritual temple, shall be pursued by the devil. He makes war with the rest of her offspring, those living in the last days when the devil is cast down. These are the ones who keep God's commandments and bear witness to Jesus. So you see, God's people will be tormented. If you are not tormented now, just wait. If you never get tormented, you must be doing something wrong.
Revelation 13:5 And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months; 6 it opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven. 7 Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them. And authority was given it over every tribe and people and tongue and nation, 8 and all who dwell on earth will worship it, every one whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that was slain.
*The saints, God's people, shall be attacked and conquered in some way, perhaps spiritually, maybe by being thrown in prison or labor camps or something. Those in power gain authority over all the earth before this attack. And they want to get rid of those pesky Christians and they will.
Revelation 13:14 and by the signs which it is allowed to work in the presence of the beast, it deceives those who dwell on earth, bidding them make an image for the beast which was wounded by the sword and yet lived; 15 and it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast so that the image of the beast should even speak, and to cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be slain.
*This beast is given power and by signs of some sort, is able to deceive most of the people on earth. All except God's people. That is why God's people have to go, perhaps by some sort of imprisonment, and a few by execution to scare the rest, in hope they might renounce Christ.
Revelation 16:7 And I heard the altar cry, "Yea, Lord God the Almighty, true and just are thy judgments!" 8 The fourth angel poured his bowl on the sun, and it was allowed to scorch men with fire; 9 men were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues, and they did not repent and give him glory. 10 The fifth angel poured his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was in darkness; men gnawed their tongues in anguish 11 and cursed the God of heaven for their pain and sores, and did not repent of their deeds.
*I believe these various plagues are the spiritual or psychological torments men experience due to the insane philosophy, what we might call "spirits" or propaganda, that is spread around. It is stupid, useless and even debased, intended to enable them to mislead everyone. But these ideas of political correctness cause great harm and damage. They do not work or benefit mankind. Further, the preaching of God's word also is a torment to them and a reminder of the failures and inadequacy of their vain ideas and philosophies. From these they do not repent. The plagues are symbolic as are most things in Revelation.
Revelation 16:13 And I saw, issuing from the mouth of the dragon and from the mouth of the beast and from the mouth of the false prophet, three foul spirits like frogs; 14 for they are demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty. 15 ("Lo, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is he who is awake, keeping his garments that he may not go naked and be seen exposed!") 16 And they assembled them at the place which is called in Hebrew Armageddon.
*Some more info on those signs, those "spirits," that come from the mouths of the beast and the false prophet. Their purpose is to assemble, to gather all the nations together against God and His people. What do they want with us? They want us out of they way. We will not go along with their bad deeds and enslavement of the human race for the benefit of a few. So they will assemble everything they got against us. Are you ready?
Revelation 16:20 And every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found; 21 and great hailstones, heavy as a hundred-weight, dropped on men from heaven, till men cursed God for the plague of the hail, so fearful was that plague.
*The things that men without god go through will be dreadful, but only in a symbolic sense. So geat will be their suffering, torment, and misery, that they will curse God for that symbolic "hail." It will be very great, whatever it is. It will surely make them very miserable.
Revelation 17:12 And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast. 13 These are of one mind and give over their power and authority to the beast; 14 they will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful."
*As we learned from Psalm 2:1, they want to make war with God and His son, the Christ (the anointed). The do that by attacking Christ's people. But Christ the king will conquer them with ease.
Revelation 19:11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! He who sat upon it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems; and he has a name inscribed which no one knows but himself. 13 He is clad in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, followed him on white horses. 15 From his mouth issues a sharp sword with which to smite the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron; he will tread the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name inscribed, King of kings and Lord of lords.
*More evidence that Jesus has a war to carry on and it is against the nations who are also against him and his people who he loves.
Revelation 19:17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly in midheaven, "Come, gather for the great supper of God, 18 to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great." 19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who sits upon the horse and against his army. 20 And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had worked the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulphur. 21 And the rest were slain by the sword of him who sits upon the horse, the sword that issues from his mouth; and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.
*Well, as you can see, it does not go well with those who fight against Christ. Keep in mind that this fight is somewhat spiritual at first, but ends up physical when the people of Christ are "conquered." But then Jesus kills all those who are not his and who attack his, thereby, in essence, attacking him. He strikes back in a very literal way, wiping out all resistance to his rule.
Revelation 20:1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain. 2 And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, 3 and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years were ended. After that he must be loosed for a little while.
*Satan, himself is not totally destroyed yet at this time. He is bound and imprisoned for a thousand years, during which time he will not be allowed to mislead anyone anywhere. After that, he is let loose to see who will be faithful on earth and who will not. He attempts to lie and deceive again and quite a few are mislead if you read that whole chapter. But God's faithful ones remain loyal after which Satan is permanently killed at that point.
1 Corinthians 15:25 for it is right for Him to reign until He puts
all the enemies under His feet; [Psalm 110:1] 26 the last
enemy made to cease is death. 27 For "He subjected all things under
His feet;" but when He says that all things have been subjected, it
is plain that it excepts Him who has subjected all things to Him.
[Psalm 8:6] 28 But when all things are subjected to Him, then
the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who has subjected
all things to Him, that God may be all things in all.
Revelation 11:7 And when they have finished their testimony, the beast that ascends from the bottomless pit will make war upon them and conquer them and kill them.
*This scripture is kind of a key one. It indicates that Christians have a testimony to carry out and that there will be a time when that testimony will be completed. Then the beast will make war upon them and will figuratively conquer and kill them. I say figuratively for Revelation also promises a vast number will be saved through the great tribulation so it could not be a literal death that they all go through. The next verse also helps clear this up.
Revelation 10:7 And when they complete their witness, the beast coming up out of the abyss will make war with them, and will overcome them, and will kill them. 8 And their bodies will be on the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom, and Egypt, where our Lord was crucified. 9 And some from the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations will see their dead bodies three days and a half; and they do not allow their dead bodies to be put in tombs. 10 And those living on the earth will rejoice over them, and will make merry. And they will send one another gifts, because these two prophets tormented those living on the earth. 11 And after three days and a half, a spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood on their feet. And great fear fell on the ones beholding them.
*Something happens but what it is I do not know. But the nations do not like it and are scared. Of course, that does not mean a few will not be killed as the next verse shows.
Revelation 6:9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne; 10 they cried out with a loud voice, "O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before thou wilt judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell upon the earth?" 11 Then they were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been.
*But we are also told about the following people so we know there must be a large number that do not literally die, but live through he great tribulation.
Revelation 7:9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb!"
7:11 And all the angels stood round the throne and round the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God for ever and ever! Amen."
7:13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, clothed in white robes, and whence have they come?"
7:14 I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night within his temple; and he who sits upon the throne will shelter them with his presence. 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. 17 For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
*So it should be clear that the devil is alive and well and has a plan. The nations who follow in his spirit and footsteps, also have a plan. They are all out to deceive and mislead the people of all the nations and they will do quite well. Only Christians are not deceived nor do they renounce their God. So they are attacked and "killed," so to speak. But they "rise" after "3.5 days" and everyone else gets real scared. The nations are wiped out by the King of kings who shows them no mercy as he cleans house.
Now given that the nations should want to mislead the people into ignoring God and going along with them, what should we conclude about today's philosophy, ideals, and rhetoric? They are not truth but are "spirits" that are designed to fool and mislead people. They might sound pretty good until you look at it all more closely. And Christians will be urging all to take that closer look and see that vain philosophy for what it truly is. Crap inspired by demons whose purpose is to take people down the wrong way.
Of course, the nations will not appreciate us raining on their
parade and will eventually have their fill of us and want to get rid
of us and they will. Some will die and many more will be imprisoned
or have their lives made very difficult and desperate. But Jesus who
is looking on in heaven will himself also have had enough and will
act to destroy these wicked tormentors once and for all.
Several things we should understand about this. One, things will go from bad to worse as Paul next indicates.
2 Timothy 3:1 But know this, that in the last days grievous times will be upon us.
3:12 And, indeed, all desiring to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. 13 But evil men and pretenders will go forward to worse, leading astray and being led astray. 14 But you keep on in what you learned and were assured of, knowing from whom you learned, 15 and that from a babe you know the Holy Scriptures, those being able to make you wise to salvation through belief in Christ Jesus. 16 Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be perfected, fully furnished for every good work.
*We need to understand that our warfare, our war as we might call it, is not a real physical fleshly one. It is a battle of philosophies and ideas, of what is truth and what is not as the next scripture makes clear.
2 Corinthians 10: 3 For walking about in flesh, we do not war
according to flesh;
10:4 for the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but powerful to God in order to pull down strongholds, 5 pulling down imaginations and every high thing lifting up itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought into the obedience of Christ.
*I also have 3 articles that have a lot more to say about these ideas. Lying Signs and Wonders, the Great Apostasy, and an article on the word "Spirit" and "What is Spiritual," all under Related Articles.
But if we have not come into conflict with anyone yet, we have to wonder if we are truly doing the job we are supposed to. The world hated Jesus and wanted to and did, kill him. If we are doing our job, they should also want to kill us. But too many of us are not doing anything, really. We may still be saved as long as we don't compromise when asked to deny Christ. But will we feel good about ourselves on the other side.
Besides, Satan and his earthly followers often look for timid ones of Christ who are straddling the fence. These are the ones they like to try and intimidate into a compromise so as to weaken the resolve of others in the faith. So you make yourself a target if you show yourself to be in fear of man.
We are also in danger of ourselves being mislead by this strange deceptive philosophy of the nations, the poison of political correctness. The only defense against it with which we can arm ourselves is with a good sound knowledge of the word of God. God tells us what to really believe if we will listen. But don't expect the nations to tell you the word of God is right. They will tell you it is all wrong and that it is not moral, humane, or decent. We would expect them to say that. They want you to see it their way and join them in their ambitions and desires.
So arm yourself with true knowledge so you can resist their attempts to deceive and brace yourselves for the certain anger that is to follow when you don't see it their way and tell that to others. Whether you live or die at the hands of the nations, you will live again with Christ. The other option is to die forever along with all the rest of the world who joins the nations in their war with Christ and his followers.
The persecution we are about to face is real and will happen. We must prepare now so that when it happens, we will be ready to stand against it and win our crown of glory. So let's get to work, right?
Now last but not least, many believe that Revelation shows a showdown between various nations in some sort of final world war and nuclear annihilation. Nothing could be further from the truth. All the nations are gathered together as one, not against each other, but all together against Christ and his people. We are the object of their attack. People get confused because they take Revelation in too literal a way. Revelation is not a literal book. It is a very figurative symbolic book written in a code so as to hide its message from our enemies.
So if we read it with spritual eyes and understanding, then will we understand what it means. But it foretells an attack on us. God saw fit that we be warned so we can prepare. Don't waste a minute doing it.
